Germantown Formal Garden

Nicole and Sam wanted to maximize the space available for their love of gardening and the outdoors. The trouble was, what form to give it? Nicole had noticed patterns of circles within squares throughout their historic house and suggested we extend it to the garden. The result was a sequence of spaces, now well-loved and richly gardened. Masonry by Ashenfelter and Sons Masonry. Planting by owner.

Doylestown Pool Garden

Alice was building a pool where she could enjoy time with her grandchildren. “Could we do this without seeing any mulch?” asked Alice. To fulfill this wish, a tapestry of colorful perennials and creeping groundcovers was interwoven among boulder walls. Planting and boulder work by DiTore Brothers.

East Falls Gardens

Cathy had just moved from Brooklyn and was excited about the additional outdoor space. She desired an area with outdoor seating surrounded by pollinator-friendly plants and a little space for growing vegetables. We created a stone patio echoing the patterning of the old stone building, set under the shade of an enormous oak tree. Masonry by David Brothers, tree and shrub planting by TerraNova Landscaping, perennial planting by owner. Arborist work by John. B. Ward.

Lafayette Hill Streambank Restoration

A small stream runs through the front of Dan’s property, and like many streams in urban areas, it was a bit of a mess. Invasive species had overrun much of the space, and erosion was an ongoing problem. With input from Habitat by Design, we re-graded the stream channel, reinforced the problem areas with vegetative solutions, and replanted with robust native species. Earthwork and planting by Garret Churchill. Arborist work by John B. Ward.
